I was finally able to catch up with dancer, Miami Lux, who has traveled all around the USA bouncing and working from club-to-club. Currently calling Portland home (for now!), Miami opens up about their Latinx roots, how that’s affected how people treat them and how they navigate their work. Miami, who identifies as enby, or non-binary, has danced in all types of clubs across the country. Because they are male-presenting, they have been able to work in both male/heterosexual and queer clubs, feeling most at home at the latter. We speak about their experiences having danced at various clubs and how to deal with customer complaints, raging bachelorette parties, consenting to physical touch, and how to manage racialized microaggressions. We also get to touch on the differences in atmosphere from coast to coast, identifying unsafe conditions and safe spaces, and so much more!
